The Story of Your Sperm

Conception of a human child usually happens inside of a woman. Before a baby girl is born, when she is still gestating inside the womb of her mother, she already has all the eggs she will ever have for her entire life present inside her. 

The egg that was penetrated by the electric impulse of your father’s sperm at the beginning of your life was already present inside of your grandmother. Your grandfather caused this to happen when he gave your grandmother a girl sperm with an x chromosome, the father stuff needed to make the person who would eventually become your mother. The genesis of your sperm happened inside of your father within months of the moment you were conceived.  

For fathers, the conception of a child is something that happens outside of their body. They bring the gift of their electric pulse, a sacred flame to the holy well that is the body of their children’s mother. With the rhythm of their heart they come, and experience the first moments of fatherhood in prostration to an awareness of being separated from a part of themselves. 

The fertile woman who becomes a mother experiences what it is like for two people to be in the same body. The observant man who becomes a father can only wonder at what his child will be like. Once given, the story of your sperm does not belong to your father. It is a secret hidden from view. First in your mother, and then once you are born, the secret continues with you.   

Notice all the ways there are for you to receive the electric pulse of the father stuff within you. Listen and observe what is alive in this moment. What is  the energy being generated through your thoughts and interactions with people and the world around you in the past 64 days? 

Recognize that the father stuff in you is not for or against anything in the unfolding story of who you will become. You come from a gift that was given in faith, and there are no conditions other than to be an expression of that faith. The story of your grandfather and grandmother prepared the ground for the seed of your father’s faith. All of that is within you. 

Respond by waiting to see what help is needed. There is no need to rush to make things happen. Prepare the ground, sow and receive seeds of faith for future generations. Listen for the rhythm of life in the coming generation. The story of your sperm is the secret of the people they come from, for your children to tell. Hear them out.
