It is Possible to Change Overnight

I am feeling like there is nothing I can do. I look out my window to the world, and I look at the flowers blooming in our time, and I wonder. Am I able to really see the flowers for what they are, to experience the potential in each bud to release their fragrance? In the words of Bob Dylan,  “For them that must obey authority/ That they do not respect in any degree/ Who despise their jobs, their destinies/ Speak jealously of them that are free/ Cultivate their flowers to be/Nothing more than something they invest in.”

I believe there is more to be experienced in the beauty of this spring day than what can be seen with the eyes, or experienced with the senses, but we have to start somewhere. Ask anyone to tell you what is actually happening, and the chances are if something seems to prevent them from living the life they imagine is possible they will give up describing what they actually see at the point where they sense that the world they describe is limited compared to their inner life.

There is a point in which asking why something is happening and looking for proof or a reason to explain how we got to be in the situation we find ourselves in actually becomes a hindrance to deeper understanding. Why are we alienated from each other? The question promotes a kind of circular reasoning, as if there is a reason for the sense of separation that exists outside of us, in the external world. This is happening because it is happening.  It may be a beautiful Spring day, but if we are looking to the flowers for answers to questions we already know the answers to, we are asking the wrong sort of question.

It is possible to change overnight, but this involves shifting the focus of our questioning to  release the fragrance of a flower that is more mysterious and profound than could ever be proven. If you are looking for proof, you will not find it without having the ability to deny what is false without getting caught up in the blame and shame game of seeking once and for all solutions. We may look for the reasons things got to be the way they are, as if knowing the reason would release us from the limitations of our false senses, as if everything would be different only if we get everyone else to recognize that we are not to blame. If only we could prove the essence of who we are, then we could begin living a real life.

Now, is that true? I don't think so. Just because something hasn't been proven yet doesn't mean that isn't real. In fact, it could be that what hasn’t been proven is the most real thing there is. Our entire focus on results and externals and manifestation is a complete inversion of the way that nature actually works.

Mostly, the mystery of nature works silently and invisibly. Our real lives, our inner lives, are richer and more profound than we could ever explain to another human being. And there is no way that this sort of thing can be proven. It's like trying to take a photograph of the Grand Canyon. It cannot be captured that way. And yet no effort is lost. With every sincere attempt to release ourselves from the limitations of trying to prove our value, and seeking to comfort ourselves by seeking the familiarity of what has already been proven we release a fragrance that changes the atmosphere around us, and reflects our true potential to create a legacy of love and learning for the people we come in contact with. The whole point of life is not to just go hurrying about after some external measure of usefulness. Release the sweet essence of your ever loving mind into the universe. Let your mind bloom like a flower, one for all time. Let everything stop, and smell the roses. Release the fragrance of your heart's purpose.
